The Diachronic Museum of Larissa is built on the hill "Mezourlo", on the city's southern outskirts near Larissa's ring road, in an area of 54 acres gradually given by the Municipality of Larissa to the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.

The Museum was inaugurated on November 28, 2015 and is now open to the public.

The Permanent Exhibition

The exhibition floor plan

The exhibits come from excavations carried out during the 20th century, so far in the prefectures of Larissa, Trikala and Karditsa, gathered from supplies and donations of objects and the repatriation of various antiquities. The exhibition in its entirety will hosts about 2000 objects.

The museum’s main purposes are to renegotiate the relationship of the area’s inhabitants with its past and its heritage and to raise awareness to their protection, through the foundation of a dynamic relationship with the concepts of archeology, cultural heritage, material culture and cultural management. This relationship is based on the Museum's permanent infrastructure and further reinforced by periodic actions.

The basic narrative of the report is the Thessalian space over time, the institutional organization of society and the temporal course prior to this organization. The approach of this journey in time and space lies inside the triptych of state, institutions and institutional powers. Some sections highlight various crucial issues of their time period in distinct subsections. These options were defined by the archaeological material itself.
